The Tea Cycle

We say it all the time: We believe a drink can be more than a drink. We're committed to recreating systems of resilience, not only in our drinks & bodies, but in our process too.

By-products are a necessary part of any manufacturing, but lucky for us, one of our main sources of waste actually provides us with an opportunity. Tea is the anchor of our kombucha brewing process, so as you can imagine we go through A LOT of it! Once our tea leaves have completed their very important and magical job of transforming water to delicious tea, we send them along to their next task: using their remaining nutrients to feed and enrich the soil.

What to do with used tea leaves

Spent tea leaves can be used as an organic fertilizer and are known to increase soil drainage, help with healthy aeration for plant roots, drive away certain unwanted garden pests, and help the soil retain moisture and nutrients. This compost often contains 4.4% nitrogen, 0.24% phosphorus and 0.25% potassium, making it an organic source of NPK fertilizer, known for helping plants grow (specifically plants who thrive in nitrogen-rich soil, high in tannic acid).
